Occurring prior to the division of the country in 1945, this moment is an important unifying memory for all Koreans and is celebrated by both those in the North and those in the South. The March 1, 1919 Movement is also an important moment of international history, and profoundly involves the people of the United States, as well as the United States' history and traditions.
